Wood Columns

This house was built in 1928. It has the old brick columns half way and then the columns of wood for the roof on the front of the house. my porch is approximately 16 x 8 slabs concrete. I hate this look and I would get the old brick columns have been removed but there is a small room above the porch. I would like the porch before being projected to appear different. With the room above the porch, I wonder if I need to keep the big brick columns. I do not have much money to work with, but I'll have to do something before long. Who do I contact? How much do you think this could be? The room on the veranda is very small as 16 x 8. The house is a large part of two floors.
Most contractors should be able to support the roof while removing the columns of bricks. then buy a column with a proper load bearing capacity, as Henderson, Black and Green (HBG), which sell composite columns
