2 was the primary cause: Victorian was just too fussy, and people were ready for something simpler, fresher and more honest. that led to #3 and #4.
#1 was a contributing factor too: it woke people up to see the gorgeous simplicity of the Edo period in contrast with the horrors of Victorian excess. But while A&C drew on Japanese influences, it was just part of the overall ethos, one of the many rivers that flowed into the ocean.
