Should I use a square box or a regular round electrical box for a wall sconce?

The round box is essentially a ceiling box. The studs are exposed and I have two boxes at home now. I did not know what the norm.

A wall no wall hanging from the ceiling, it is mounted on the wall. You can use either an octagon (Round) or simple (rectangular) box for them. The weight is normally not a problem. The screws attaching the fixture is what makes the difference in your case. Match between them and you know who you will work. If they both work, use the smallest (one band).
