Living Room & Dining Room - Knotty Pine?

My room is about 22 x 16 and 3 of the 4 walls have knotty pine. Long wall with door and large bay window and two smaller walls. A wall also has a brick fireplace (no chimney). The plateau in the fireplace is stone or slate? It makes my room so dark and ancient appearance. I do not paint, but to remove anything that has a lot. The color is quite dark walls and all wood is good state except the small wall Knicks in it from a switch or something. My only wall in the dining room also has this ... None of this goes with this theme or the style I would have ... Dining is currently baskets and color americana. the only thing I can see who works with respect to lines in a basket. Salon I like the look Victorian, Antique White, washed colors. What is the best way to cheer?

Cover it with a color vinyl ... just follow the contour of the forest. Staples up. It will not damage the wood and you will almost look painted. "Vinyl is easy to clean and arises under tons of different color. It's like apolstering your walls. It works wonderfully. You can choose different colors for different parts. So ... for the rest of the room ... add prints things in color. Art on the walls, accent pillows, rugs, window treatments ... Just to go with bright colors of light. Printing will add interest and light colors will add light to the room.
