Shabby Antique

My boyfriend and I are moving in together, which I am very excited about...however, we have *very* different styles of furniture from our two different apartments. Everything in my apartment is pastel, antique, and "shabby chic." I have a dark rose loveseat, an antique wood trunk I use as a coffee table, a pale green bookcase, and pale blue antique stand. He has all dark wood furniture, a modern glass coffeetable, and a tan/light brown couch. This is a small one bedroom apartment. Is there a way to make this all work? We want to keep both of our furniture, just "blended" somehow.
Thanks for your help!
You might modernize your 'shabby chic' by removing some of the knick-knacks, clearing spaces. Unifying color among the smaller pieces of furniture will modernize a bit, too. Anything you can do to 'de-clutter' will help bring the room closer to neutral. (Look at texture - ruffles, stacks of items, multiple fabrics, lots of colors -- all add visual complexity).
The modern furniture can be softened by adding texture or color. Add a soft throw blanket (a solid color from the floral couch) diagonally over the modern couch -- making it more welcoming.
