Handles Hardware
Posted in Garden Antiques on 09/05/2010 01:29 pm by adminHas anyone ever painted kitchen hardware- handles and hinges?
I was thinking of using metal spray paint. I currently have all my cupboards painted white, and going to do something with the doors, sponge, rag, or color wash, I'm not sure yet. I have my formica counters and backsplashes primed, and am going to faux finish the counter tops granite- green or brown base with gold, black and tan accent. I will probably color wash the backsplashes in a adobe color (color in my living room). Any decorating ideas or better color scheme ideas? The floor is linoleum- forest green w/gray and a lighter green. I want to paint the hinges a brown, metallic, or copper color depending on what colors I go with on the countertop. I could use some ideas. (the cupboard doors are just flat doors- no trim or edging- this is why I would like to dress up the hinges)
We just redid our cabinets and put on new brass knobs. After they were all installed, the decorator said we should have chosen antique brass knobs.
I pulled all of the knobs, painted them with a very dark brown Krylon spray paint and distressed them by rubbing off a bit of the paint with some 0000 steel wool.
Now only did they look good, the decorator thought we had bought new knobs.
If you want to give it a try, the only cost is a few dollars for a couple of can of paint and some effort on your part. Clean them to remove any paint, oil or grease and apply very light coats until you build up to what you want.
