Corinthian Corinth

Why did Paul refer to the members of the church of God of Coninth as Saints?

In I Corinthians 1:2, Paul says: "To the church of God in Corinth, TO THOSE SANCTIFIED IN CHRIST JESUS AND CALLED TO BE HOLY . . ." (New International Version). In other translations, it says, "To the SAINTS in Corinth (in the Greek, to the "holy ones"). How could Paul describe the members in this way and then lay out all their sins in the rest of the letter?

Believers are Saints. According to the Bible.
Not through anything WE have done, but because of the Christ and what He did.
