In an upstairs bedroom, about 5 feet off the ground, I saw a white flash of light. It was a quick flash that had particles raining away from it. It made a popping sound, kind of like the sound old camera flashes made when they popped. Does anyone know what this might have been? Or has anyone else ever seen this?
Ball lightning is an interesting hypothesis. I wish there was more evidence for it occurring naturally, since it seems quite improbable to me. But it's within the realm of possibility. What you describe, however, sounds very much like a lightbulb blew out, or you saw a bright flash from outside through the window, such as a transformer blowing on a utility pole. I presume you checked out these possibilities, however.
