I keep seeing commercials showing guys buying diamonds for their spouse...and the women, predictably turn to mush and go crazy in the commercials. I have been struck with the realization that this is all nonsense.
In my experience, most of the girlfriends that I have had were never really that crazy about receiving jewelry as a gift. They feign excitement and appreciation because that seems to be what they are expected to do. Guys are told, if they spend absurd amounts of money on shiny baubles, that women will melt. "Diamonds are a girls best friend" we are told. But I believe that more practical and personal gifts are appreciated much more genuinely.
The entire business is nothing but nonsense and conditioning constructed by the industry. I cannot believe, that in this modern age, that women should be so primitive and irrational as to turn into butter when receiving a 'shiny' piece of metal or a 'shiny' rock.
I agree, I bought my wife a vacuum for valentines day and she went crazy... I'm still recovering
