Head Fence

I have a 12" 45 degree tilt head Craftsman band saw, and i need a rip fence and a miter gage.Wherecan i find1?

Sorry about spelling errors, i nearly ran out of room.

I've been a woodworker for over 20 years and I've never used the rip fence that came with a bandsaw. The only thing I've ever needed one for is to resaw a board into thin strips and for that I've either used a board or an L shaped jig because you need the additional height and length to support the thinner lumber as it goes through the saw.

As for the miter gauge, if it your saw has the standard 3/4 inch slots in the table top, then you can use any brand or make your own if you have access to a table saw. Woodcraft http://woodcraft.com and Rockler http://rockler.com have a bunch of fancy options as do other manufacturers. Of course you can always go to Sears http://sears.com to locate original equipment, but the fences and miter gauges that come with most band saws are pretty small and flimsy.

Precision and accuracy are very difficult to achieve with a band saw because of the inherent flexing of the blade. A band saw is great for making curved cuts, but not so good for straight lines unless the blade is at least an inch wide, sharp, and under high tension, and even then it takes careful adjustment of the guides and drive wheels.
