Im an English citizen with a working visa for Australia, also I have a medicare card for Australia. I was wondering if I go to the doctors here can they get access to my medical records in England, or will I have to get assessed to get a prescription, mainly for asthma. Is it the norm for Doctors to request medical records from patients from other countries?
It isn't usual, and NHS records remain the property of the NHS even when you die. It is often helpful if GPs give the patient a summary of their records to take abroad. Now that almost all medical records are now computerised, this is reasonably easy. If you ask at your English practice, many GPs are prepared to issue these without charge.
