What is a fair price for standing cherry, walnut and hard maple trees?

I have about 2 old walnut, 2 cherry and 8 hard maple trees. All are in my woods, and are fairly large and old. I think the $2K I was offered is really low. What should I expect if I were to sell them standing?

That is extremely low if the trees are in good condition. A single standing walnut, of harvest-able size and in good condition, should bring many times that amount by its self. Since walnut is used in the manufacture of furniture, cabinets, doors and gun stocks, among other things, they usually fetch a high price. Maple and cherry are also in much demand and should be realistically more valuable than the price quoted to you. I would recommend contacting your local Forestry Division to locate any buyers in the area. If you can't find one who offers a suitable price try an advertisement in regional papers; someone will pay more than your current offer. At one time it was not unusual to sell a single walnut tree for more than $50,000.00 if it met the criteria of the furniture market. Maple and cherry both fetch less, but they are worth more than you have been offered.
